Non, non, je ne me suis pas mise au rayon "self-help", je ne traverse pas une crise existentielle grave. Ce livre est un roman. Un peu étrange, il n'y a pas de chapitres, tout s'enchaîne et comme en plus c'est bien écrit, on ne sait jamais vraiment quand le reposer pour faire une pause...

Richard Novak est un quinquagénaire californien qui ne fait plus grand chose d'autre que s'occuper de sa fortune en essayant aussi de préserver son physique, le tout sans sortir de chez lui et avec une armée de coaches. Jusqu'à ce qu'il fasse un malaise qu'il prend pour une crise cardiaque mais qui est plus sûrement une crise de panique. A sa sortie de l'hôpital, il va rencontrer des gens issus d'un autre monde, sortir un peu de son cocon hollywoodien et tenter de renouer avec son fils.

C'est le même genre de parcours initiatique que j'ai décrit dans mon post précédent, écrit avec tout autant de talent mais un style extrêmement différent - je ne me suis donc pas ennuyée en lisant à la suite ces romans qui pouvaient sembler similaires mais sont finalement bien différents.

Nope, I am not turning to the "self-help" aisle of the bookshop, nor am I in the middle of a serious existential crisis. This book is a novel. A somewhat weird one, there are no chapters or divisions, things are just happening after one another and as it's very well written, you never really know when to leave the book to pause.

Richard Novak is a 50-something Californian who is not doing much more anymore than taking care of its money and trying to stay young, without ever leaving his home and with the help of an army of coaches. That is, until he gets what he thinks is a heart-attack, but it's more of an panick attack. After he leaves the hospital, he meets people from outside his world, he gets out a bit of his holywoodian cocoon and tries to get back in touch with his son.

This is the same kind of initiatic path I described in my previous post, and it is as well written but in a totally different style. So I didn't get bored at all when reading those 2 books that look so similar but are quite different.
